Mountain Walking Full day
Be it a gentle stroll in the hills around Bala or a scramble up some of the highest peaks in Snowdonia, the possibilities are endless.
Mine Exploration Full day
Slate and metal mining played a big part in North Wales’s history. Spending a day underground gives a insight into the industry of the past. Its also a good way of having an adventure out of the rain if the weather is less than perfect.
Rock Climbing/Rock Scrambling Full/Half day
Older groups generally spend the day climbing and abseiling in the mountains. Many of our younger groups spend a half day scrambling and a half day climbing or even the whole day rock scrambling on the beach.
Canoeing Full/Half day
Explore the waters of Llyn Tegid by single or rafted canoes. Our water sports base is only ten minutes from the centre on the shore of the the largest natural lake in Wales. Primary groups generally do a half day combined with gorge walking or river study.
Gorge Walking Full/Half day
Regularly voted the favourite activity of the week by groups. Our local gorge is only ten minutes from the centre and has sections to offer groups of all ages and abilities a challenging half day. For a full day explore the beautiful Afon Ddu Gorge in the Conwy Valley.
Canyoning Full Day
One of the most exhilarating and physically demanding activities we offer. Involves descending a deep Canyon. Slide down slabs, abseil waterfalls and jump into deep crystal clear pools, a day to remember.
Hill Trail Full/Half day
After an initial briefing on safety and navigation groups are dropped off and have to walk back to the centre using a map and compass. Groups are remotely supervised but get that real feeling of fending for themselves. An excellent final activity for primary groups bringing together the skills they have learnt over the week .
Expedition One and a half days
An amazing experience for anyone. Hike out into the mountains and then spend the night wild camping under the stars. Our staff will take you well off the beaten track to some of the more remote areas of the national park. All camping equipment is provided.
Sailing Full day
Be the captain of your own ship as you learn to harness the power of the wind to take you where you want to go. Rhos y gwaliau has boats to suit all ages. Generally the summer term has the best conditions to make sailing sessions possible.
Kayaking Full/Half day
The sheltered bay of our water sports centre is a perfect place to get to grips with your kayak before venturing out into the lake. Kayaks are generally smaller than canoes and you paddle individually with a double bladed paddle.
Field studies and curriculum links
Stream and village studies as well as geography and biology field studies are all possible. Go to our curriculum links page for more details.
Ropes course Half day
Within the grounds of the centre we have a small ropes course. Not much of a challenge for older groups (see high ropes course below) but works well for primary groups.
Orienteering Half day
Running while thinking. Navigate around the woods or moors to find the markers. An excellent way to develop map reading skills. Sometimes done as a whole course activity on the last day.
Group size and staffing
Activity groups can contain up to 12 children plus 1 or 2 adults. Each group will work with one of our staff, where possible this will be the same person all week. All of our staff our experienced outdoor professional with backgrounds in working with young people, for more details check out The Team here.
